"I think; Therefore I am"
Father of Modern Philosophy you say? Descartes was called this because he always looked for a scientific explanation during an era when all knowledge was expected to come from some type of religious source. Not only was he the Father, but he was also a pioneer in the attempt to formulate simple, yet excellent universal laws of motion; he governs all physical change. Descartes' father was a minor nobleman and a landowner also. When Descartes was a year old, his mother died and shortly after his father remarried. Once his father remarried, Descartes was left in the care of his grandmother and a nurse.
